KOLKATA, India (AP) ? U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton urged energy-starved India on Monday to reduce its Iranian oil imports to keep up pressure on the Islamic republic to come clean about its nuclear program.
Clinton told a town hall meeting in the eastern city of Kolkata that there’s an adequate supply in the market for India to find alternative sources of oil. Clinton noted India has taken some steps to reduce its imports from Iran but she says the U.S. wants to see more.
“If there weren’t an adequate supply … we would understand, but we believe that there is adequate supply,” she said.
India could face U.S. sanctions by the end of June if the Obama administration determines it has not made significant cuts in imports under a law aimed at squeezing Iran’s petroleum industry to press the country to prove its nuclear program is peaceful.
India, with a growth rate of about 7 percent, has a nearly insatiable need for oil. About 9 percent of its oil imports are from Iran, though officials say it has reduced its dependency on Iranian oil in recent months,
“We appreciate what has been done and, of course, we want to keep the pressure on Iran,” Clinton said.
However, India remains dependent on the imports, and Iran is its second largest oil supplier after Saudi Arabia. With international sanctions making it difficult to find banks willing to handle Iranian oil payments, India and Iran reached an agreement earlier this year that would allow India to pay for about 45 percent the purchases in rupees. Iran would then use the Indian currency to buy goods from India.
Clinton said the U.S. remained focused on putting global pressure on Iran.
“We believe, at this moment in time, the principle threat is a nuclear-armed Iran,” she said. “We need India to be part of the international effort.”
Clinton was also meeting Monday with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, a key partner of India’s ruling coalition who has stymied government efforts to lift restrictions on foreign-owned investments in the country.
Clinton was expected to talk with Banerjee about allowing multi-brand retailers such as Wal-Mart to enter the market.
Last year, India’s Cabinet had to rescind a decision to open up its market to major foreign retailers after Banerjee balked at the move, saying it would crush small domestic retailers.
“I will certainly raise the United States’ desire to try to open the market to multi-brand retailers,” Clinton told the audience at the town hall. “I think there are a lot of benefits that may not be immediately perceived.”
Cinton will head to Delhi later Monday, where she is expected to press India to push ahead with its stalled economic reform program, even though the prime minister’s chief economic adviser said last month that no new reforms were likely before the next election in 2014.

For many Chinese, they employ a technique to take life?s power and use it to improve harmony in the home and in business. They employ the principle of Yin and Yang to be able to have harmony. It is comprised of eight directions in the model of an octagon. The eight pathways are thought to be required to achieve the energy of Feng Shui. Just how things are situated in the room will have an impact on the energy being produced. If you set up a small water feature that is the farthest left corner away from your front door of your home then you can create the energy of good fortune and luck. When it comes to the Chinese, most of these Feng Shui concepts work over and over again so that is why they firmly believe in the energy it provides.
Energy is often blocked from entering your home if you place large furniture, like a sofa, with the back facing the front door. The favorable vitality is not going to enter your home if you do this. The same thing can occur in your company. A defieicency of the right energy can definitely stop the stream and make a big difference in your business succeeding. Chinese people prosper in business everyday. Yin and Yang is mostly about the equilibrium between dark and light. The energy can be controlled to achieve balance. When dealing with a Chinese business, if you produce the correct Yin and Yang, the Chinese business man will recognize it and they will be more apt to do business with you, and you both win.
If you?ve got the right Feng Shui along with the proper Yin and Yang, your home is going to have the right energy and harmony. If you possess the appropriate Feng Shui, your home will have good fortune, health and a happy family life. Your dwelling will be able to have peace with Feng Shui. Determined by what colors and materials you have in the house and where everything is placed in your home, the way the chi energy moves around will be affected. Wood furniture enhances chi, while ceramic or clay calms. The chi vitality will flow everywhere in your home but you can change things around in certain rooms if you want to have more of it in there. By using the proper materials and placements, it does bring more energy in every room that you redesign.
You can enter a Chinese eating place and you can expect to almost always find a water fountain or aquarium, and in many times Koi is placed in the waters because it helps promote good fortune in their business. With this, your dwelling or business will likely have harmony. You can find all the information you need at your local library, book shop or on the internet.
If you want to enhance the power in your home or business, you should definitely try it out. The Chinese have practiced it for many years and it has proved helpful to bring good harmony to their homes and businesses. What is effective in the east can actually work in the west.

Many antivirus vendors announce each new version with great fanfare; not Microsoft. Microsoft Security Essentials 4.0 (free) released so quietly that I almost missed it. In truth, Microsoft doesn’t refer to the version number at all, just to “the latest version of Microsoft Security Essentials.” There isn’t a lot that’s new here, and my test results were about the same as before, so perhaps downplaying the new version makes sense.
This product is a straight-up antivirus, not a feature-stuffed suite wannabe. Its main window shows current security status, with a button to resolve any problems. Another button launches an on-demand scan. That’s it!
Saved by Windows Defender Offline
Microsoft Security Essentials installed successfully on ten of my twelve malware-infested test systems. Ransomware on one test system made launching normal Windows impossible, and Microsoft Security Essentials won’t install in Safe Mode. On the advice of Microsoft Tech Support I downloaded the bootable Windows Defender Offline. A full scan with this tool solved the problem and allowed me to complete the installation.
On another test system, Microsoft Security Essentials refused to update or scan because it claimed the system was not running a valid copy of Windows. In truth, the Windows installation was fine, but malware fooled the antivirus into thinking otherwise. Tech support advised reinstalling Windows, an entirely inappropriate course given that Microsoft’s own validation tools report a genuine installation.
I ran a full scan using Windows Defender Offline, but it didn’t solve the problem. On this particular system the malware bamboozled Microsoft Security Essentials.
Mediocre Malware Cleanup
On the malware-infested systems where Microsoft Security Essentials installed and ran correctly, a full scan took hours. Scanning my standard clean test system took 72 minutes, about twice the average. And despite these lengthy scans, the cleanup wasn’t very thorough.
Microsoft Security Essentials detected 63 percent of the threats, lower than any product tested with the current or previous set of malware samples. It left behind executable files for more than half of those it did detect, and several of them were still running after their alleged removal. Its overall score of 4.3 points for malware cleanup is the lowest of any current product.
40 percent detection of rootkit samples is also a new low. However, Microsoft thoroughly cleaned up all the rootkits it did find, scoring 4.0 points. Quite a few products tested with the previous malware collection scored lower, despite higher detection rates. Even so, I wouldn’t rely on Microsoft to clean up a malware-infested system.
For an explanation of the testing and scoring process, see How We Test Malware Removal.

Boston, MA A new study by Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) researchers has found that a subclass of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, the so-called “good” cholesterol, may not protect against coronary heart disease (CHD) and in fact may be harmful.
This is the first study to show that a small protein, apolipoprotein C-III (apoC-III), that sometimes resides on the surface of HDL cholesterol may increase the risk of heart disease and that HDL cholesterol without this protein may be especially heart protective.
The study was published online in the Journal of the American Heart Association.
“This finding, if confirmed in ongoing studies, could lead to better evaluation of risk of heart disease in individuals and to more precise targeting of treatments to raise the protective HDL or lower the unfavorable HDL with apoC-III,” said Frank Sacks, professor of cardiovascular disease prevention at HSPH and senior author of the study.
A high level of HDL cholesterol is strongly predictive of a low incidence of coronary heart disease (CHD). But trials of drugs that increase HDL cholesterol have not consistently shown decreases in CHD, leading to the hypothesis that HDL cholesterol may contain both protective and non-protective components.
ApoC-III, a proinflammatory protein, resides on the surface of some lipoproteinsboth HDL and low-density lipoproteins, or LDL (“bad”) cholesterol. The researchers, led by Sacks and Majken Jensen, research associate in the Department of Nutrition at HSPH, examined whether the existence or absence of apoC-III on HDL cholesterol affected the “good” cholesterol’s heart-protective qualities, and whether its existence could differentiate HDL cholesterol into two subclassesthose which protect against the risk of future heart disease and those which do not.
Blood samples collected in 1989 and 1990 from 32,826 women in the Brigham and Women’s Hospital-based Nurses’ Health Study were examined, along with blood samples collected from 1993 to 1995 from 18,225 men in the Health Professionals Follow-up Study. During 10 to 14 years of follow-up, 634 cases of coronary heart disease were documented and matched with controls for age, smoking, and date of blood drawing.
The researchers compared plasma concentrations of total HDL, HDL that has apoC-III, and HDL without apoC-III as predictors of the risk of CHD.
After adjusting for age, smoking status and other dietary and lifestyle cardiovascular risk factors, the researchers found that two different subclasses of HDL have opposite associations with the risk of CHD in apparently healthy men and women. The major HDL type, which lacks apoC-III, had the expected heart-protective association with CHD. But the small fraction (13%) of HDL cholesterol that has apoC-III present on its surface was paradoxically associated with a higher, not lower, risk of future CHD. Those men and women who had HDL apoC-III in the highest 20% of the population had a 60% increased risk of CHD.
The results suggest that measuring HDL apoC-III and HDL without apoC-III rather than the simpler measure of total HDL may be a better gauge of heart disease risk (or of HDL’s protective capacity). “Reduction in HDL-apoC-III by diet or drug treatments may become an indicator of efficacy,” said Jensen.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) – Brandon Inge still has some pop in his bat.
Released by Detroit last month, Inge hit his first homer for Oakland and drove in four runs as the Athletics roughed up rookie Matt Moore in a 9-5 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday.
“The last two years I wouldn’t have had situations like that,” Inge said. “It’s getting back to where I’m seeing guys on ahead of me and it feels like I’m getting back to my old self.”
Jonny Gomes and Daric Barton knocked in two runs apiece for the A’s, who took two of three at Tropicana Field to hand the Rays their first series loss since Boston took three of four April 13-16.
Tampa Bay dropped its second straight, falling to 13-3 at home, and failed again to become the first major league team to reach 20 wins.
The 34-year-old Inge, dumped by Detroit on April 26 after 11 seasons with the Tigers, hit a three-run shot off Moore (1-2) in the third inning to give the A’s a 5-4 lead after Tommy Milone struggled in the first.
“That home run was huge. It felt like a 10-run homer,” Oakland manager Bob Melvin said. “To be down and then take the lead with that homer – it was probably the biggest hit we had on the trip.”
The A’s wrapped up a 5-4 East Coast road trip against Baltimore, Boston and Tampa Bay, winning series against the Red Sox and Rays.
“A three-team swing can be a little taxing,” Melvin said, “but it was an above .500 road trip and we’ll take it.”
Inge, an All-Star in 2009 when he had 84 RBIs, added a sacrifice fly in the seventh for his first game with at least four RBIs since July 5, 2010, against Minnesota. The third baseman was 1 for 10 with four strikeouts in the two previous games.
“A lot of what he does doesn’t really show up statistically,” Melvin said. “Whether it’s grinding out at-bats or in the field, we’re glad to have him.”
Milone (4-2) threw 41 pitches in a four-run first that included a two-run single by Matt Joyce, three walks and a hit batter. Milone then settled down until B.J. Upton hit a solo homer in the fifth.
“It wasn’t surprising that I threw that many pitches in the first,” Milone said. “I just went back to trying to throw strikes and that settled me in.”
Upton has 11 RBIs in 14 games since being activated from the disabled list on April 20. He also drew three of the seven walks issued by A’s pitchers, while the Rays left eight runners on base.
Milone has given up 12 runs in his past two starts, including seven to Boston last Monday.
A’s relievers Jerry Blevins, Ryan Cook, Brian Fuentes and Jordan Norberto picked up Milone, allowing just a hit over four combined innings.
Cook has not allowed a run in 14 2-3 relief innings.
“It was really contributions from everyone across the board,” Melvin said. “Really, we needed contributions with extra layers to get this game, and the guys stepped up.”
Moore gave up a career-high eight runs in 4 2-3 innings and struck out four. He struggled to get through a five-run third by the A’s that included RBI singles by Gomes and Cuban rookie Yoenis Cespedes.
“He just got out of whack,” Rays manager Joe Maddon said. “He couldn’t throw a strike where he wanted to with the fastball. He has a great fastball, he just doesn’t know where it’s going all the time quite yet. I’ve seen that before with our other young pitchers, so he’s going to be fine.”
